How much does Life Insurance cost in New Zealand?

How much does life insurance cost in New Zealand? This is a question I come across on a daily basis, and it appears to be one of the major concerns for potential clients. Of course, the very nature of life insurance cover dictates that there is no “one size fits all” solution, which is why most insurance providers will hesitate to throw out a ballpark figure.

When calculating insurance premiums many factors have to be taken into account, key ones being:

  • Age

  • Smoker Status

  • Pre-existing health conditions

  • Level of debt (Mortgage etc)

  • Occupation

  • Annual income

I recently spoke with my son who said it would be nice to just have some small indication of what life insurance could possibly cost; “Is it going to be in the 10’s, 100’s, 1,000’s per month? I genuinely have no clue!”

With that in mind I decided to put together a table with some figures that may at least offer some small indication of the potential costs involved.

As the majority of clients I deal with are couples, the following figures are for both people.

*indicative insurance premium price table*

Bear in mind that the table above is based on some assumptions:

  • All figures are based on couples. Premiums are based on both people, not individuals.

  • Figures are based on non-smokers.

Of course all insurance cover is based on case by case assessment and no guarantees can be made. For an individual assessment you can get in touch with me here and i’ll happy meet with you for consultation to run through all your options.
